The Country Trust

We a small but dynamic national educational charity, established in 1978 and dedicated to bringing alive the working countryside for children least able to access it. We aim to share knowledge, ignite curiosity and broaden the horizons of disadvantaged children. 75% of the UK’s land area is farmed, but the majority of us live in towns and cities, disconnected from the people and the land that sustains us.
We provide transformative, educational experiences of food, farming and the countryside enabling all children (teachers, and parent helpers) to get excited about learning, to succeed and discover new possibilities.
We operate throughout England and in N Wales, working with over 25,000 children annually from primary schools in urban areas of high deprivation such as Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham and London, as well as addressing growing need in areas such as East Anglia. Our work has three connected strands; hands on Farm Discovery day visits to real working farms, immersive Countryside Discovery Residential trips to Norfolk, Suffolk and West Yorkshire, and year-long Food Discovery projects where children learn to grow, cook, explore local farms, run a Playground market, meet Local Food Heroes and prepare and share a Harvest Feast.
