College Farm (Sisloe)

College Farm is 116.3-hectares of arable cropped land farmed on a contracting arrangement. Crops grown include winter wheat, oilseed rape and beans. Originally owned by the County Council it was purchased by Cranfield University in 1984. It has principally been managed commercially, but parts are used for experiments/trials on soils etc. The soil type is mainly heavy clay with some light green sand in the northern fields. Conservation work has included the establishment of 6m grass margins, new hedgerows and a pond.
