Brickyard Farm

Brickyard Farm

The site includes a stone cottage built in 1830 and in 1861, clay from the site was being used to produce drainage pipes. The fields were part of the Enclosure Acts of 1821 and still have the characteristic ditch and hedged bank boundaries. The areas where the clay pits exists have not been ploughed or fertilised and are therefore rich in meadow grasses and wild flowers. In June there is an abundance of common spotted orchids.
