An excellent centre for British wildlife, acclaimed by both Defra and BIAZA (the zoo federation) for the quality of its education and conservation programmes. It has more than 300 animals on display from around 60 species native to the British Isles, introduced to these islands and surviving in the wild, or previously native but currently extinct - everything from weasels to wolves! Established conservation programmes for UK-native endangered species, including captive breeding and reintroduction of water voles, hazel dormice and red squirrels.
