Clap Gates Farm is a 170 ha mixed farm with a variety of crop types, grassland, wildlife features, animals and machinery available for study. The farm has land at several sites in Cheshire, with the home farm of Clap Gates Farm being walking distance from the village of Haslington. The livestock enterprise consists of breeding ewes and fattening cattle. Crops grown include winter wheat and winter and spring barley with wild bird seed mix plots being established under Environmental Stewardship to benefit declining farmland birds. The farm is also involved in re-wetting previously drained grassland at Sweetenham to benefit declining wading bird species like lapwings. Additional land at Holmes Chapel is adjacent to the River Dane SSSI, notified for its geological interest and with areas of semi-natural grassland and ancient woodland.
