Bolshayne Fen is an SSSI wet meadow, intersected by a stream and having a pond of approximately a quarter of an acre in its south west corner. The land is a wet valley bottom and very rich in flora and fauna, some quite rare. In spring it is a blaze of ladies smock, marsh marigold, wild iris and orchids and very many more. The insect life is very diverse and the pond is frequented by a number of varieties of dragonfly. Bird life is also very varied. The stream is also rich in fish and plant life.
