- Who? LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) & NFYFC (National Federation Young Farmers Club) are dedicated to helping young people explore careers in agriculture. Through initiatives like Future Farming, we inspire the next generation by showcasing the industry’s connections to science, technology, and sustainability. However, we need the support of the whole industry to engage, inspire and motivate young people to enter the agricultural industry.
- Why? Only 18% of students have received information about careers in agriculture in their school careers education How Do Young People Perceive and Value the Agri-Food Industry? LEAF McDonalds UK and The School of Sustainable Food and Farming
- How? Thanks to ADM Cares, we have updated the Future Farming cards which showcase the breadth of careers within the agricultural sector plus have created a pack of resources to support agricultural organisations to talk to young people about the career options in the industry.
Industry Resource Pack -Engaging Young People in Agri-food careers

running:
- an exhibition stand at a careers event
- a student workshop
- an assembly
- Where? You can order a printed pack or downloaded from Countryside Classroom (Coming Summer 2025!)
We recognise that this can be daunting so this resource pack sets out more information about careers education linked to the Gatsby Benchmarks as well as how to engage with teenagers.

LEAF Rational
In our most recent youth engagement research launched in 2023, only 18% of the young people had received information on a career in agriculture. The number one suggestion for the intervention that would be useful to young people to be able to consider a land based role was ‘talking to professionals from the agri-food industry’. The whole agri-food industry has a role to play in this to showcase the diverse and exciting roles that our industry has to offer. We are so excited to share these new industry-focused resources to showcase how simple, rewarding and impactful engaging young people in conversations about careers in the industry can be to ensure the sustainability of our workforce in the future.
