Grow to School

We’re thrilled to announce that, thanks to the generous support of The Edina Trust, Grow to School will be delivering our Supported Growbag Toolkit to 10 primary schools across Leeds.

In partnership with Leeds Healthy Schools, we are working to identify and support schools that will benefit most from this opportunity—bringing the science curriculum outdoors, food growing, and climate education to where it’s needed most.

The Growbag Toolkit is a complete, teacher-friendly package designed to make sustainable education accessible, engaging, and manageable for every school—no matter their space or experience.

Each school will receive a comprehensive toolkit that includes:

 Seasonal growing guides to explore food, nature, and seasonality.
 Plants and seeds to grow food throughout the year.
 Curriculum-linked science plans to bring learning to life outdoors.
 PAWS activities (Plants, Animals, Water & Soil) exploring biodiversity and climate actions
 Seasonal SEND and after school club activities to ensure every child can take part.
 Recipe cards linking food growing with healthy eating.
 Teacher support whole school CPD training
 Gardening and outdoor learning days whole class lessons led by our experienced teachers every half term.

Real impact in the classroom

At Peel Park Primary, the project has had a transformative effect. Josh, a Year 5 teacher, shared that pupils have grown in confidence, built resilience, and made meaningful links across the curriculum. He especially noted how children have confidently use scientific vocabulary and explain growing processes outside of formal science lessons, often connecting what they’ve learned to their own personal experiences at home or in nature.

More than a project—it's a legacy.

The impact of this work goes far beyond a single growing season. Schools will leave the programme with:

 A thriving growing space
 Pupils with an awareness of where food comes from and stronger nature connection
 A permanent toolkit for outdoor learning and food growing
 Staff trained to confidently deliver the curriculum outdoors

We’re proud to be working with Leeds schools to create meaningful, lasting change—and we’re deeply grateful to The Edina Trust and Leeds Healthy Schools for making it
possible.
