Getting hands in the soil isn’t just a fun activity, it’s a vital part of a child’s physical, mental, and emotional development.
A Childwise survey, commissioned by the Country Trust, revealed that around a third of children don’t have the opportunity to put their hands in soil, either through play or soil-based activities such as gardening, at home or at school. Yet, encouraging kids to get their hands in the soil isn’t just for fun, it’s an essential part of a child’s physical, mental, and emotional development, and helps them to build a fundamental connection to the natural world and to food we all eat.
