Countryside Classroom

Nestled just south of Birmingham, Mount Pleasant School Farm is a beacon of rural education and sustainability, offering students a rare chance to step away from the urban buzz and into an immersive, hands-on learning environment.

A Rich Heritage with Lasting Impact

Founded in 1972 by the Worgan Trust, a Cadbury family philanthropic foundation, the school farm has welcomed over 400,000 schoolchildren from across England and Wales over the decades.  In 2008, the centre gained a brand-new, eco-designed classroom, purpose-built to enhance education and engagement.

A Fully Operational Dairy Farm in Action

Situated on a 540-acre working dairy farm, the site features approximately 200–210 milking cows, alongside sheep, pigs, and various poultry—creating a rich tapestry of agricultural life.    One of the most memorable learning tools? “Buttercup,” a life-sized model cow used to explore milking and dairy anatomy in a fun and visual way.

Learning That Comes Alive

Each visit is thoughtfully tailored to align with the National Curriculum—from Foundation through KS4 and SEN groups:

• Start in the sustainable classroom, learning about food systems and respecting the countryside.

• Feed and collect eggs from hens, have close encounters with sheep and pigs, observe dairy cows and calves, and even explore seasonal machinery and field work.

• Dedicated farm teachers lead every visit—there’s no self-guiding—ensuring both safety and curriculum relevance.

Enhanced Facilities with Accessibility in Mind

The site features coach parking, covered areas, accessible toilets, and handwashing facilities—making it inclusive and practical for all school groups. Only one class-sized group visits at a time, ensuring focused attention and a calm atmosphere.  Wellington boots and rain gear are provided on site to maintain biosecurity.

Sustainability at Its Heart

Mount Pleasant School Farm is more than a teaching space—it’s a model for environmentally responsible farming. The classroom is eco-designed and energy-efficient, and the farm participates in the Entry Level Environmental Stewardship Scheme, promoting biodiversity, soil health, and responsible land management.

Why Mount Pleasant School Farm Shines

1. Genuine interaction with farm life—from feeding animals to observing real farming processes—connects theory to reality.

2. Sustainability integrated into learning, not just taught.

3. Individualised sessions with expert guidance guarantee curriculum alignment and safety.

4. Exceptional facilities ensure access and comfort for all pupils.

5. A legacy of innovation and learning, sustained by the Worgan Trust’s vision.

A Day to Remember

Imagine a classroom experience that brings textbooks to life—where children don wellies, get hands-on feeding hens and sheep, collect eggs, meet calves, learn about the latest milking machinery, and walk through farmland, all while asking questions and connecting with the world around them. That’s Mount Pleasant School Farm in a nutshell: an inspiring, inclusive, and unforgettable educational adventure.
