The Croft is an organic smallholding lying between the M6, A7 and the City of Carlisle. The first community wood in Cumbria was planted here. The flora and fauna becomes more diverse each year in response to the use of traditional farming methods under a Stewardship agreement. There is a small breeding herd of Longhorn cattle and a flock of Greyfaced Mule sheep. Beef and lamb are marketed direct from The Croft. The Croft is open for educational visits and students wanting work experience, prior to studying veterinary science or agriculture-related subjects, are welcome.
