Haughton Castle

Haughton Castle

The land surrounds a medieval castle at least 700 years old which stands on a defensive position above the River North Tyne. The landscape has been developed for agriculture and ornament throughout Humshaugh's long history. Today there is a fine 18th century park with hardwoods and a river walk, a Norman chapel, ornamental lake and Georgian paper mill. Most of the buildings have found a modern use without changing their character.
