Snelsmore Common is one of Berkshire's largest remaining tract of heathland and was granted SSSI status in 1954. The site has two rich valley mires (bogs), especially noted for their diverse wetland flora.. The heath is actively managed to preserve the specialised heathland, plant and animal communities.
