The Island Explorer programme remains the most popular and inspiring way to visit the island. The Day Visitor Centre attracts many groups to its range of Environmental Fieldwork and Outdoor Adventure Programmes. The short (but exciting) ferry crossing from Southampton or Portsmouth takes you to a world where there is beauty, interest and excitement. Carisbrooke Castle was built by the Normans, and is a popular site for a day visit. Osborne House, the home of Queen Victoria, is a popular venue.
