New Barn stands amidst the rolling chalk downlands of Dorset in an area of outstanding natural beauty and rich in the evidence of our ancient history. Converted from an 18th century farmstead, the chalk and flint barns, stables and cottages have been carefully refurbished to provide superb accommodation, study and workshop facilities. Over the past few years New Barn's twenty acres have been given back to nature for the children to enjoy and study. Over one hundred million wild flower seeds have gone into the recreation of traditional downland. A three acre hazel and ash coppice has been planted, traditional hedgerows and wildlife ponds have been established. A wonderful area for children to play or study.
Guided walks through the fields and woodland surrounding New Barn introduce children to the nature of our countryside. Our Wildlife Sanctuary for indigenous amphibians and reptiles, together with our 'Animal Encounters' and pond dipping sessions, bring children face to face with nature. We are always happy to show teachers and group leaders around the centre and to discuss programme activities and studies, which are individually prepared for your group.
