Peak Cavern is the largest natural cavern in Derbyshire and also has the largest entrance to any cave in Britain. It is situated near the centre of the historic village of Castleton. Beneath the imposing remains of Peveril Castle. A village once existed inside the entrance vestibule, built and inhabited by rope makers, who carried on their craft in the cavern for over 300 years. The remains of the original rope works can still be seen today, and demonstrations of ropemaking are given as part of each tour.Peak Cavern is an excellent venue for educational visits. We cater for all age ranges from Key Stage 1 through to GNVQ level. Special rates are offered for pre-booked groups, and a special "joint ticket" is available for groups wishing to visit both Peak and Speedwell Cavern.
