Slack House Organic Farm

Slack House Farm has full organic status and is an upland dairy and stock farm, as it has been for the past 90 years at least. All of the land is down to pasture, varying from clover-rich, and long term leys to upland / wetland pasture and wildflower meadows. The farm is in one block, with a boundary of mainly dry store walls. Some field boundaries are of dry stone walls and those which were wire or grown out hedgerows are now replaced by new hedgerows. There is a good distribution of native broadleaf trees and scots pine, some forming small woodland. Birdoswald Roman Fort is 1/2 km away and the Roman Road from here to Bewcastle passes through Slackhouse.
