Hampden Bottom Farm is 1000 acre arable farm growing a range of spring and autumn sown crops such as milling wheat, oilseed rape and beans. Ian Waller is a tenant of the Hampden Estate and has farmed the land for the past five years. He applied for Environmental Stewardship to enhance the wide range of features on the farm such as rare arable plants, birds and chalk grassland. In order to manage the grass he is purchasing (in 2006) a flock of the traditional, but rare Herdwick sheep and will manage them as a breeding flock.
