Food Animal Initiative

The Food Animal Initiative is a commercial livestock farm set up to develop farming systems which provide significant benefits to animal welfare, the environment and human health. The farm works closely with researchers from Oxford University. Visitors will see real and future farming in action. Of interest are: unusual breeds of cattle, sheep and pigs; chickens, both egg-laying and meat producing, living in a woodland setting; conservation activities including hedgerow restoration, willow pollarding, grass margins in arable fields, flower rich grassland. The farm includes a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Grassland and arable land are in organic conversion. A hedgerow restoration plan is in place.Willows along the river and watercourses are pollarded
