West Foreshield

West Foreshield is a 220 hectare upland beef and sheep farm set in the North Pennines. The holding supports 42 cattle and about 760 Swaledale sheep. The hay meadows on the farm are cut late July. Relics of North Pennine’s history can be seen in the form of mine workings on the holding. One of the workings Blagill mine is also a geological SSSI.  In addition to agricultural the farm also supports abundant wildlife including breeding waders such as Curlew and Lapwing and native Black Grouse.
