The Scrimshaw’s have farmed Old Eau Farm for 3 generations; the farm is 105 hectares, about 2/3 arable and the remainder grassland grazed by cattle.
The farm is typical of the surrounding fen landscape, with the advantage of a range of wildlife habitats including traditional meadows and reedbeds which support species such as reed bunting, water vole and pipistrelle bat.
Features of historic interest on the farm include a Roman British settlement; crop marks indicate a field system with possible long houses and ring ditches.
Surviving ‘darlands’ –medieval drainage systems – provide an insight into how these drainage systems were formed.
