One of the best farms in the Region to learn about all aspects of production of apples and pears. A range of commercial plantings offer examples of different growing techniques introduced over recent decades.
Myrtle farm also has orchards of larger fruit trees planted in the 1960’s and managed under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme with a low input regime to benefit wildlife. Features that are prominent year round include a range of mosses and lichens on the trunks and branches, green woodpecker & their nest holes, logpiles of fruitwood that provide habitat for invertebrates & fungi, our native stinking iris and a small orchard pond.
