The monastery is an isolated hermitage within the Eastern Orthodox church, situated at 1,273 ft under Sheperd's Rock on the Eastern Slopes of the Stiper Stones in the South-west Shropshire hills. It consists of a small-holding of twenty acres of pasture and woodland managed with a Higher Level Environmental Stewardship Agreement. The Monstery is a Shropshire Wildlife Site and a sacred Land Project with the world-wide Alliance of Religions and Conservation. It is listed in the West Midlands Butterfly Conservation Project Register for the midlands frilillary project and is managed as conservation grazing with Exmoor ponies and with poultry.
