The Howie family carry out dairy and arable farming at Morwick Farm and also operate an on-farm ice cream manufacturing and selling diversification, milking an average of 190 cows. The herd genetics are based on British Friesian stock including the famous Royal Double winning cow after which the ice cream is named. Morwick Sand Queen won the Royal Highland and Royal Show in 2002. Her very high genetic potential remains with the herd. The farming enterprise is based on growing forage for the herd plus break crops of oilseed rape. Whole crop silage is made to secure as much home-grown protein as possible.
