Swanwick Lakes, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust

Swanwick Lakes, Fareham
A beautiful mosaic of habitats set in the heart of urban South Hampshire. The lakes, woodland and flower-filled meadows are all the result of human influence. In the late 19th century, the area was an important part of the local strawberry growing industry. Clay extraction between 1897 and 1974 resulted in several quarries which have now become the spectacular lakes. Nature has truly picked up where industry left off.
