The Trinley Estate is an arable farm on the outskirts of Andover that integrates with sheep and works to benefit the environment. We offer school visits throughout the year working with students of all ages and areas of the curriculum, the tractor and trailer ride is often the highlight.
We grow a wide range of arable crops; wheat, barley, oilseed rape, peas and beans. Crops are grown for human consumption and animal feed use such as barley for beer and wheat for bread making. Our machinery is advanced and integrates modern technology such as GPS steering, yield mapping and soil zoning which enables us to target apply inputs.
We aim to reduce our pesticide use by farming using regenerative methods where possible, such as growing cover crops to keep soil covered which reduces soil erosion and retains nutrients and also direct drilling which reduces our carbon footprint.
We work closely with a local shepherdess whose sheep graze our grassland and cover crops through the year. They lamb outdoors around April each year. They form an important part of our journey by farming with nature by using natural fertiliser.
The estate is in a Countryside Stewardship Scheme which integrates conservation across the whole estate which creates, enhances and protects wildlife and their habitats. We have created a new wildlife pond and extensive areas for farmland birds such as Yellowhammers, Linnets, Dunnocks, Lapwing and Skylarks.
We have over 100acres of ancient woodland which is actively manged to protect and enhance habitats for dormice, flora and fauna. We have over 20 nest boxes for barn owls, kestrels and tawny owls working with the Hawk Conservancy Trust.
