Orchard Farm is situated right on the South Devon Coast at the mouth of the River Erme Estuary, Site of Special Scientific Interest, set within the South Devon National Landscape.
The farm comprises 34 acres that is managed regeneratively to improve biodiversity across a range of habitat types while also producing wool and meat from Coloured Ryeland, Poll Dorset and Dutch Spotted Sheep. We feed all our sheep on grass alone and our farming system aims to incorporate many natural ecosystem processes. The farm is run by couple Joe and Jess and their daughter, Winnie, as a small family business alongside their off-farm jobs in the NHS. The family believe strongly in the importance of peoples’ connection to nature and the value of this to the health of the natural world and to ourselves.
Schools and Home Education Groups: We work with schools and groups to make sure our visitors have an immersive, inquisitive and memorable time in nature. Farm visits can relate directly to the national curriculum and provide an exploration into how farming is evolving to meet the needs of nature, the climate and biodiversity crises, as well as discussing the social inequalities in gender, food, nutrition and how connection to nature can improve wellbeing.
Visits for Schools and Home-Education groups are free because they are funded by the Governments’ Environmental Schemes.
