The Grain Trading Game

As events unfold throughout the farming year, students compete in groups, making decisions about when and how much of their wheat harvest to sell. This activity can be part of a farm visit - complemented by a real-world experience and the expertise of a farmer - or it can also be done in the classroom by the teacher.
Students learn about the complexity and risks involved in growing food within a global commodities market. They judge the reliability of official and unofficial market data, make difficult decisions as a team, and calculate their profit (or loss!). The winning team makes the most profit.
