Our Vision

It is the vision of Countryside Classroom that schools and teachers across the UK will embrace food, farming and the natural environment as essential components of a broad and balanced curriculum, incorporating them into day-to-day learning. As a result of this, every child will have the opportunity to learn about and experience these topics in diverse ways that are increasingly supported by experiences outside the classroom.

Countryside Classroom is built on the combined experience of its partners in working with children and schools to enhance learning about food, farming and the natural environment. It is led by and produced for teachers, to enable them to overcome the challenges they face in identifying and accessing the necessary support to inspire and educate their pupils.

To do this, Countryside Classroom provides a single, easy-to-use source of school support that:

  • facilitates access to teaching resources that can be found quickly and used effectively
  • connects teachers with venues that provide practical outdoor experiences
  • enables schools to form links with local services and networks

Ultimately, Countryside Classroom will grow to represent a movement of teachers who are finding new ways to engage with food, farming and the natural environment in school and will offer opportunities to interact and share recommendations with the Countryside Classroom community.

Our History

The organisations behind Countryside Classroom are committed to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to learn about and experience food, farming and the natural environment. Most have been achieving great success in these areas through their work with schools, chefs, gardeners and rural businesses to enhance children’s lives and learning.

Countryside Classroom is the largest ever partnership of its kind, and is led by Farming and Countryside Education (FACE). The founding partners first came together in 2012 with the shared ambition of increasing the number and quality of learning opportunities accessed by pupils. Since then the consortium has grown to represent the very best in food, farming and natural environment education.

The Countryside Classroom web site has been made possible through the generous financial support of AHDB and The Prince’s Countryside Fund.
